Why continuous slab beams matter in Donnybrook
Obstructed internal beams and short reinforcement laps.
In short: A slab beam that is not continuous is not doing what the engineer designed.
Internal beams
They stiffen and span the slab. Obstructed and discontinuous beams have been recorded on Donnybrook pours.
Reinforcement laps
Laps shorter than the minimum break the continuity the steel exists to provide.
Step reinforcement
Where a step exceeds 200mm the engineering calls for extensions. We have found them absent.
Bar chairs
They hold the steel at the designed height. Too few and the cover is wrong.
Safety on the deck
Uncapped star pickets and reo bar ends are an impalement risk for anyone working there.
